Interesting piece of info.

Windows crashes automatically if you don't switch off the machine for
49.7 days.This is accepted by Microsoft.

Do you know why?

In windows the Virtual Machine Manager(VMM) is responsible for
creation, execution, monitoring and termination of virtual machines.
This VMM is a
32 bit protected mode operating system, provides a number of system
service at chip level of programming.

One of these services is "Get_System_Time". This particular service
loads the EAX register with the time in milliseconds since Windows
started.This service is accurate to 1ms.

EAX is a 32 bit register. So the maximum number of milliseconds it can
hold is:

(2^32) - 1 = 4294967295 milliseconds
= 4294967.295 seconds
= 71582.79 minutes
= 1193 hours
= 49.7 days

So after 49.7 days the EAX resets to zero.Most of the Drivers use this
Time Service to keep track of the time out of various services they
provide. So after 49.7 days the drives cannot use the Get_System_Time
function of VMM and they crash.

"SO DO NOT KEEP YOUR MACHINE ON FOR MORE THAN 49.7 DAYS.

It all begins with Std. 10- “ Bete, you got to study just like the
neighbourhood boy, Krishnan Venkatraman Subramanium Iyer, who slogged
day and night to get admission in Ruparel.”

Then comes the crucial H.S.C.* *where we are again reminded of some
other scholastic persona (although such people don’t possess one) who
scored 99% in PCM and is still slogging (and will continue to slog for
his entire life). Loads of pressure, the entire personality of the
child
changes during that frustrating year, still he does his work thinking
that he will relax next year.

Finally the candidate manages to get somewhere close to 93% and *feels
happy*. (Only till the day of admissions where he notices that there
are
2407 people in Mumbai who have a score better than his.)

College in Vashi, 4 hours journey, is what is constantly hovering in
and
above his head. And, if forgotten, relatives, the so-called
philanthropists, are always there to remind.

Finally, if the soul is lucky, he manages to get admission in a college
in suburbs.

Again he *feels happy*. (Only till the day his Mechanics and B.E.E.
lectures begin.)

He feels life is hell and is totally unable to figure out the reason he
is made to study this.

Then the most technical, intelligent and practical work begins in his
college, the submission*. *Although it’s highly technical, intelligent
and practical, (a repetition of all three qualities was necessary here)
there is nothing surprising that his younger brother studying in the
seventh grade does it for him.* *

Again he slogs day and night, and after the first semester, where he
has
made an attempt of 90 marks in mechanics, he *feels happy*. (Only till
the results, where he gets 20 in mech. where he was expecting 80.Now
he’s confused as to why is it called A.T.K.T. Actually it should’ve
been
80-K.T). And since this is his first experience, he fills up a
re-verification form, anticipating miracles. He gives his K.T
examination and passes this time, and then the re-verification results
come stating that he had cleared mech. in the very first attempt. A
perfect, engineering experience.

*But engineering also has its advantages*. It helps a person improve
his
relationship with his grandfather, because now they can chat on a
common
topic. He is made to study the same computer languages that his
grandfather used to study during his young days.

This is how engineering inculcates values in students. It’s really
appreciable.

Semesters pass by and the young dude, turns into an uncle.

Finally there are campus interviews conducted in his college and he
again *feels happy.*

(Only till he realizes that there were only 2 students selected out of
1453 applicants.) Then he tries his luck with G.R.E and luckily gets
selected in one of the top grade colleges in the States and *feels
happy. *(Only until the day, the authority at the consulate rejects his
visa because the engineer’s face had an uncanny resemblance with his
brother in law whom he hated, or for some other similar reason, which
“they” don’t bother to state.)

Then the tired, frustrated engineer gives hundreds of interviews for a
job without a response, and the poor soul *feels unhappy*. (Only till
the day he gets a call from a U.S based company with an annual package
of 60,000 U.S dollars.)

So the moral of this article is, no matter what critics say, we
engineers rock. What say? * *

At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated, "If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving twenty-five dollar cars that got 1000 mi/gal."

Recently General Motors addressed this comment by releasing the statement, "Yes, but would you want your car to crash twice a day?"

And...

1. Every time they repainted the lines on the road you would have to buy a new car.

2. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason, and you would just accept this, restart and drive on.

3. Occasionally, executing a maneuver would cause your car to stop and fail and you would have to re-install the engine. For some strange reason, you would accept this too.

4. You could only have one person in the car at a time, unless you bought "Car95" or "CarNT". But, then you would have to buy more seats.

5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast, twice as easy to drive, but would only run on five percent of the roads.

6. The Macintosh car owners would get expensive Microsoft upgrades to their cars, which would make their cars run much slower.

7. The oil, gas and alternator warning lights would be replaced by a single "general car default" warning light.

8. New seats would force everyone to have the same size butt.

9. The airbag system would say, "Are you sure?" before going off.

10. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.

11. Every time GM introduced a new car, car buyers would have to learn to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.

12. You'd have to press the "Start" button to turn the engine off.

Wish a very happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have this new year resolution to write blogs starting the first day of this year..Well its 2nd jan, it means i am late by 1 day..(oh!!! RAIT attitude...cant live without it!!)
Well, a gr8 day to start a gr8 thing. Its my mom's Bday today...so Happy Bday MA!!!!
And its a 1st day of my COOS module...Gr8 news is that Anand is back as a faculty....All r happy out here...
